Head Boy Blog: Leo Hill

Welcome back to the final half of the final term, I almost cannot believe I am writing those words already!  What an amazing year it has been, I hope you have enjoyed the school year as much as I have.  It has been an honour and privilege to have represented the amazing Bickley Boys as Head Boy, a year I will cherish for the rest of my life.  I am about to embark on a new journey at Dulwich College, just learning where the classrooms are will be quite a challenge, let alone the new world of learning opportunities and activities to discover!

It is easy to see how Year 7 and Year 8 have helped all of us mature and prepare for the sizeable step to our next schools.  The roles of responsibility have definitely helped us develop life skills, confidence and experience that are the foundations for our futures.  I would encourage you all to put yourself forward for: one of the four quadrant roles, house captain or the head boy committee, when your time comes.  As Mr Quilter says “Being a big fish in a smaller pond has huge benefits”.  I am so glad I stayed to Year 8 and, even though the 37 page Dulwich College manual is daunting and the map of the buildings looks like a small town, I feel ready to dive right in and hit the ground running!  It is fair to say, the lessons in Year 7 certainly shift up a few gears and the smaller class sizes really allow everyone to flourish at their own speed.  I have particularly enjoyed science, but don’t ask how the potassium hydroxide got onto the ceiling of the science lab!  I will miss how well the teachers know me, know how I learn and know how to drive and motivate me, but I feel prepared for whatever the future brings.

As you can see from the picture above, I am excited to announce we have added a new award to Speech Day.  The Head Boy Committee (H.B.C.) Impact Award, will be the “players player award” for the pupil who has had the biggest and most beneficial impact.  This impact can be on school life, personal or family life, charity work or something in the community.  We would ask you to think about worthy candidates, who do you know that’s gone that extra mile and had a hugely positive impact?  If you would like to nominate somebody, please pass his name and the reasons why to your school council representative. The H.B.C. will collect the nominations, discuss each candidate thoroughly and select an ultimate winner, who will receive the cup and be the first person to have their name engraved on it!

Thanks again for all the high fives, conversations and support, what an amazing community we have, first class boys, teachers and facilities.  I hope you enjoy(ed) Adventure School and the assessments go/went well, they are a great reminder of my favourite phrase….

“Try hard and have fun!”
