Hi everyone!

My name is Theo, and I’m a Deputy Head boy this year. It’s my final year here, and the one thing that has struck me recently as the main thing I will miss is the strong sense of community here at Bickley Park. House football is a great example. There were amazing matches played by every boy, and I’m proud to be part of a school with so much talent at sport, definitely far more than I’ll ever have! Even those who might not have had as much skill, still put in all the effort they could, encouraged by teammates, keen parents and teachers alike. That was my final House Football, and I have thoroughly enjoyed every single one, as I hope all of you have and will. It was fantastic seeing how both teams got points for sportsmanship in almost every game, and I’m sure this will help me carry fond memories of my time here.

Another event this year that brought our school community together was Heritage Day, where the boys and teachers wore outfits to reflect a part of their heritage. My brothers and I chose to wear clothes reflecting our Singaporean heritage (as you can see in the picture here) and the day sparked lots of conversations about our backgrounds and families, a chance for all of us to celebrate the diverse community that we are lucky to have here at Bickley Park School. It made me realise how our differences don’t divide us, rather they unite us into a stronger community.

We also had Remembrance Day, where we all came together to share a silence to commemorate the fallen and be grateful for all those who have sacrificed their time, freedom, and sometimes even lives so that we can have better futures.

Last week was not an ordinary week either. We celebrated Kindness and Mental Health week, as being kind to others is what it’s all about. Some of the boys were given slips of paper, encouraging them to write a kind message to someone on it, and many jumped at the chance to be kind! On Friday, we had a hat day, where you could wear any hat, be it a simple cap or a golden fedora, to raise awareness of, and celebrate, our mental health. I was standing outside the gates of Prep and Pre-Prep along with the other members of the Head Boy Committee, and we were delighted to see all the amazing head gear on display!

Overall, Kindness and Mental Health week is all about looking after our well-being, whether it be your own or others. If any boys have any worries or concerns about exams, friends, family or any issue, you can always speak to a teacher, me, or anyone else at school for that matter. This is what community is all about; our BPS family has been built on looking out for each other, supporting our peers during ups and downs and being approachable to those who need someone to talk to. It is something I have been grateful for over the years and I hope it continues for ever more.

Keep making Bickley Park amazing!

Theo
