Where are they now?
Our children gain places at the top Grammar and Independent Schools - many with Academic, Sport, Music and Arts Scholarships. Their varied and interesting paths take them on to some of the top Universities and extraordinary careers. We hope you enjoy reading how their time at Bickley Park shaped their next steps.
Leo : Dulwich College (Class of 2024)
I am now in Y9 at Dulwich College, and I have to say I am absolutely loving it!
Bickley Park was fantastic at preparing me for Dulwich. In all subjects I have been able to hit the ground running and I am walking into classes with a massive head start. In maths the GCSE topics we covered at Bickley are allowing me to thrive and develop new skills rather than struggling to keep up. In history and geography, we are studying The East India Trading Company, again topics we covered in great detail at Bickley. With science splitting into three, we are building on the strong Bickley foundations, the digestive system in biology, waves in physics and states of matter in chemistry. All these familiar topics bring back fond memories of my time at Bickley. It is clear Bickley has given me a huge head start on my new classmates and rock solid foundations for Dulwich to build on.
In Y7 and Y8, Bickley helped me become more independent by: encouraging thinking creatively, researching, finding answers on your own as well as important roles of responsibility. Being independent has really helped me to prepare for and keep up with what is a huge step up in intensity of classes, homework and extracurricular activities. I make schedules and organise myself putting my Bickley mindset to use!
Bickley introduced me to the world of drama and public speaking, through various musicals, plays, clubs, readings at Christmas Services, the roles of responsibility or even talking to younger years about Fossils (yes, I once again have successfully snuck Fossils into this)! This confidence has allowed me to make some amazing new friends already and to have the courage to always put my hand up in class to share an idea.
One of my favourite memories of Bickley Park would be every time (it happened many, many times) Mrs Patel would give us an inspirational speech. Whether it was on kindness or maths or kindness or doing you best or kindness (you get the point), it was always amazing to listen to.
I also have fond memories of science throughout my years at Bickley. Particularly when Mr Cobb took a tiny block of potassium and dropped it in a bowl of water in Y7, to show us just how reactive metals can be. The next few moments were, fizz, ball of fire on water, bang, smoke, and potassium hydroxide all over the I-pad (that was filming it)!
Iman : Aerodynamicist, Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team (Class of 2011)
My time at Bickley Park, from 2000 to 2011, provided me with a great platform from which to build for the future. I went to secondary school at Tonbridge and university at Imperial College London, where I studied Aeronautical Engineering. Currently I am working at Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team, as an Aerodynamicist. During my time at Bickley there were many enlightening experiences across the various disciplines of academics, sport and personal growth. One particularly vivid memory was winning the Year 4 House Rugby with far from the best players, but certainly the best teamwork. This was an important lesson and one which applies to all walks of life. I wish all those studying at Bickley Park as good a time as I had, and one which they will look back on in the future with fond memories.
Nicholas : Insurance Broker (Class of 2013)
I joined the Nursery at Bickley Park in the early 2000s, enjoying many happy years before departing for Tonbridge School in July 2013. During my time at Bickley, I spent a lot of time on the Sports field and in the Theatre. My highlight being playing ‘Joseph’ in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in Year 6. My experiences playing sports in a team from a young age, alongside a more solo element of drama gave me a very well-rounded preparation for adult life!
I now work in the Insurance industry as a Broker and am still in touch with a number of my friends from Bickley Park. We still reminisce about the fun we had and look back with extremely fond memories of our time at Bickley.’
Jasdeep, Asset Management (Class of 2005)
I have fond memories of my time at Bickley Park, from the Nursery in 1996 all the way through to Year 8 in 2005. Looking back, I realise how it was the teachers that made Bickley what it is today; a thriving community during crucial years of boys’ academic, sporting and personal development. Many of those characters created special memories which last today - Mr Dean, Mr Cash, Mrs Inkson and Mr Marsh, to name but a few. After Bickley, I moved on to Tonbridge and Oxford, before joining Deutsche Bank and DWS in the City. I hope the students of today and tomorrow can write their own stories as the Bickley community continues to grow.
